A list of collection services may be found in the yellow pages. The township annually provides a clean-up day for items to be dropped at the township hall. Notice of the clean-up day is published in the Princeton Union-Eagle and on this web site." Does the township provide FIRE SERVICE? | What is a TOWNSHIP and TOWN GOVERNMENT? The formation of townships and the principles that govern townships are described in the TOWNSHIP, TOWN GOVT web page under TOWNSHIP LIFE. What is the ANNUAL TOWNSHIP MEETING? The ANNUAL TOWNSHIP MEETING is where you, a resident of the Township, can make decisions that will have the effect of law within the Township. At the Annual Meeting, you will be taxing yourself by voting on the levies to be set for roads and bridges, fire, and administration. This may include the authorization to the board to contract for services from non-profit organizations that attribute to your health and well-being. You can also vote for money to help pay for community halls built and maintained by other groups. Some of the other items that can be set by you, the elector, during the Annual Meeting are: Authorize the Town Board to purchase or build a town hall and vote an amount of money for that purpose. Authorize the Town Board to purchase grounds for a cemetery, public parks and recreation areas and levy funds for the purchase and maintenance of same. Fix penalties for violations of orders or bylaws. Adopt ordinances for stray animals. Authorize the Town Board to require all or part of costs of culverts on approaches to town roads be paid by the abutting landowner. Authorize the Town Board to vacate certain town roads. Authorize the Town Board to provide funding to a historical society. May set shorter voting hours for the state primary, special or general election for townships with less than 500 inhabitants. (A POINT OF INFORMATION - For state elections, the opening of the polls may not be later than 10:00 a.m. and must be open to 8:00 p.m.) May authorize a polling place within five miles of one of the town’s boundaries if no accessible polling place can be made available within the town. Set the time and place of the continuation of the Annual Meeting and the next Annual Meeting. Share concerns and suggestions to be recorded in the minutes so the Town Board can review and take future consideration. No motions will be accepted that would tie the hands of the Town Board and their governing rights under legislation. You cannot vote on setting salaries. You cannot vote on dictating the road improvements and how much to spend on each road project and you cannot vote on the selection of election judges and/or election guidelines."
